Heritage City of Vigan

The City of Vigan is a World Heritage Site.  It is one of numerous Hispanic towns in the Philippines and is well-known for its cobblestone streets, and a unique architecture that fuses Philippine building design, and construction with colonial European architecture.

The city’s full name at the time of its Spanish foundation was “Villa Fernandina“, or “Town of Ferdinand”, in honour of Prince Ferdinand, the firstborn son of King Philip II of Spain. As the city grew, and the seat of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia transferred to Vigan, it was later re-named “Ciudad Fernandina de Vigan” (“Ferdinand’s City of Vigan”).

5 Election Pointers & Predictions

This entry is based from the Seminar on Technology and Law by Atty.  Enrique V. dela Cruz, Jr. who in turn based his lecture from his observations on various election tests held.

1.)  CLUSTERED PRECINCTS. This term means a composition of two or more established precincts.  In May, the original 320,415 Established Precincts will be reduced to 73,000 Clustered Precincts.  An Established Precinct has 200 voters while in a Clustered Precinct in May, there will be 1000 voters.  Thus, 5 Established Precincts equals 1 Clustered Precinct.

Prediction: Some may not be able to vote.  A voter must vote for a maximum of 6 minutes only.  This figure came from the following: 9.5 hours multiplied by 60 minutes and a maximum of 10 voters at a time inside the clustered precincts/classroom.    The voting period is 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.  6 minutes is not a reasonable time even for a sharp and well-informed voter.  More, Filipinos tend to show up on the “last minute”.

2.) PCOS (Precinct Count Optical Scanner).  COMELEC purchased only  82,200 PCOS  Machine for the 73,000 Clustered Precincts making the difference as spares.

Prediction: Failure of Election is a possibility since there is no replacement for every machine.

3.) UNIQUE AND ULTRA-SENSITIVE BALLOTS. The long ballots with letters the font size of which is 11 should not be folded or smudged because the PCOS  will invalidate it.  If invalidated, the votes will not be counted.  The ballot is also unique for every voter and there is no replacement.  Consider the very small armchairs in public schools and the indelible ink on the hand of the Teacher / Election Inspector.  There will always be a tendency for the ballot to be folded or smudged.  Also, there will be no secrecy of ballots.

Prediction: Educated Voters win! This good news for Gibo and Gordon.  Bad news for Villar and Erap.

4.) 3 DAYS PRE-ELECTION “WATCHING” PERIOD. 3 days before Election Day, the machines shall be sealed in the presence of the watchers without any connection to transmission links.  The public shall be allowed to secure the polling places where the counting machines are kept and the only time that the counting machines shall be opened again is on election day in the presence of the same watchers.

Prediction: Additional 3 Days of Possible Terrorism increasing the chances of a Failure of Election.

5.) GROCERY-RECEIPT-LIKE ELECTION RETURNS. Aside from the appearance, the print also fades in 7 days.

Prediction: Election Protests Fail! Only the Receipt-like ERs are digitally signed.  Scanning or photocopying it will not help.

Asian Invasion on Youtube

Ryan Higa is Japanese-American comedian from Hilo, Hawaii. They are known for their YouTube comedy videos, which have been viewed over 250 million times. His YouTube channel, nigahiga, is currently the most subscribed of all time.

In 2008, Los Angeles producer Derek Zemrak offered to help them create their first feature-length film. The resulting film, Ryan and Sean’s Not So Excellent Adventure, was directed by Richard Van Vleet and released on November 14, 2008.   It was shown in sold out theaters in Hawaii and California.

David Yong Choi (born March 22, 1986) is a Korean American musician and YouTube video producer in Los Angeles. He performs a mix of original songs and covers of pop hits. Choi released his first album Only You in October 2008.

As of 15 February 2010 (2010 -02-15)[update], Choi is the 18th most subscribed musician on YouTube, with 209,266 subscribers and 5.4 million channel views. His humorous song “YouTube, A Love Song” has received over 2.5 million views. The video for the song “Won’t Even Start”, posted on both his and Wong Fu’s YouTube channels, has received a total of over 1.7 million views.

Choi has also worked as a songwriter and producer at Warner Chappell Music. He has done promotion for Starburst candy and J. C. Penney clothes.

Kevin Wu (born June 12, 1990) is a Chinese American comedian and YouTube celebrity who is best known by his YouTube username of KevJumba. He was YouTube’s number one subscribed comedian and third most subscribed user overall on June 5, 2008. The San Francisco Chronicle’s Jeff Yang has noted that Wu is not a comedian in the conventional sense but that by “just talking [he] is, well, pretty hilarious” due to his deadpan vocal delivery, animated facial expressions and tendency toward unexpected digressions.  Wu previously appeared on The CW Television Network’s short-lived Online Nation and co-starred with Jessica Lee Rose and Philip DeFranco in Hooking Up from HBOLabs (the online arm of HBO) in 2008.

Christine Gambito, better known by her screen name HappySlip, is a Filipino – American Internet personality, actress, and comedian. She maintains one of the most-subscribed-to channels on YouTube, a popular video sharing website.  On January 25, 2008, Gambito, who is of Filipino ancestry, was appointed ambassador for Philippine tourism by the Department of Tourism.

Gambito’s performances typically include comedy sketches in which she impersonates members of her family. She also sings and plays the piano and guitar. As Gambito has stated repeatedly in her videos, she is notably one of the very few top users acting, filming, editing and producing her shorts completely on her own

Namskie (aka Nam Huynh) is a Vietnamese who is born in Minnesota and currently resides in Austin, Texas.  Nam is known for his  videos on YouTube.com, and has nearly 10,000 subscribers with over 1,500,000 views on his videos.

Nam can be considered as a comedian or entertainer, but laughter and smiles are just a part of his life.  As an entrepreneur, Nam believes that free-will and having fun are what life is about.  Why not enjoy joyful goofiness with thousands of his friends on the internet?  The idea of Namskie is not about making money, it is about making and spreading smiles.  It is that simple.

Leadership in Good Genes

The past century showed us that a good-looking head tends to lead its body well.

The United States of America had Bill Clinton whose administration was peaceful.  He was in fact ‘forgiven’ for his sex scandals because the economy of the United States of America was doing great.  The best part of it is that Hillary chose to stand by his side and did not let Monica have Bill.

The Roman Catholic Church had Karol Wojtyla a.k.a. Pope John Paul II whose reign was one of the most ‘inspired’ in history.  He is the most loved pope of all time because of his charisma (brought about by his good looks).

The Kingdom of Monaco had Princess Grace Kelly who put Monaco on the world map.  Even the World Bank was inspired to lent some billion of dollars to establish Monaco as a ‘Resort Capital’ of the World.

The opposite, of course, happened to Germany, whose leader was too insecure with the good-looking Jews.

Thus, it is also imperative for the Philippines to have a President with good genes for inspiration and progress.
